Rusted tin, randy tunes and candy...

That's what it took to shake the crux of yesterday's abysmal funk. I've been keeping very busy working with new mediums over the past couple of jewelry-design-free weeks. It's refreshing to take on different projects and discover new techniques. It's that whole thinking/planning issue we discussed.

A few days ago I went through my stash and donated a bunch of unwanted and unused art supplies and ephemera. In the process I unveiled some hidden treasures. Just over a year ago I bought a few rusted tin tags from a supplies shop on Etsy. They sat idly until now. Yay for quaint, old, "unshiny" stuffs.

While trying to figure out what Cyndi Lauper was talking about in the super catchy She-Bop I pulled out the magazine and assorted scraps. (I figured it out, hence the title. I'm always the last to know these things...Favorite Guy clued me in to the Frankie says, "Relax" secret just a few years ago.) I constructed this fun little piece of bliss. Perfect for decorating a cubicle, cork board or a large shadowbox. Isn't it sweet? Found images: bird cage , Fox terrier with tin; courtesy of Real Simple magazine scraps. Yay for upcycling!

I started a few other collage pieces while on my musical junket through the 80's and 90's. I also noshed on far too many Twizzlers. Y'know, they don't taste even remotely cherry-like, I have to say the flavor is decidedly Twizzler. There really is no other apt descriptor for them. Anyway, I feel much better. And you, how are you this glorious Thursday?

-Peace

All my creativity is on hold....or maybe its being diverted to the election! I declined to watch the debates (useless stress) but will be in the Obama office again helping make sure Virginia goes blue! I'm signed up to be a driver on election day helping people get to the polls. My husband is going to be a Dem poll watcher, on the look out for irregularities. Wearing my Obama pin daily and engaging in conversation on change and diversity! We can BE the change we WANT!

How cute! Don't you love it when the creative process goes 'click'?

As for the election...it's certainly been entertaining and emotionally stirring. I think they should have just saved their money and time and elected Obama weeks ago! I'm eager to get on with it and let him get to work on these tough issues!

Hmmm, Cyndi Lauper, Twizzlers, and recycled supplies. Sounds like a perfect moment. I do remember as a child that Twizzlers DID taste like cherries - I guess as is the case with so much these days, the company messed with the formula.

That tag is great. I've been taking a break from jewelry too, this week, and have tried to get back to my "artistic roots". It's nice to change horses once in a while.

I have a very long playlist on my ipod devoted to music from the '80s. Funny, during the time, I didn't really like it - used to call it "manufactured music" with so much synthesizer being used.

Now, I really like some of it. Huh.

Have a great day,

Kate

Lovely tag! How funny you just learned what the great Cyndi Lauper was singing about...in my life before motherhood I ate, slept, and breathed such trivia.

BTW, how about a game of tag...7 random things about yourself :-)

You make me want to be captain crafty pants, I really wish I could make cute stuff like you! Oh and I totally agree about the twizzler taste, how on earth do you describe that taste. . . . it's just like the tootsie pop, the world may never know!

Cuty creation as always. Is the power of crafting so very wonderful? There is truly nothing that it can't cue... or at least that's what I choose to believe. I am looking very forward to Christmas break, when it will completely ok for me to loose myself in countless balls of yarn.

I have been jewelry free design-wise for the last couple of weeks but my mind is buzzing with ideas. And my sketchbook is filling up.

If I could only get over the hump and do it. I have an idea for a Halloween piece but I am hesitating so long that Halloween will have come before I make it...
