Postponed!

The Mercado family feast has been postponed. Eh, fret not it's one of those confutable impositions I'd mentioned previously. And, a flexibility I'm afforded only by the pleasures of residing a blissful 3,000 miles from both our families.

Thanksgiving in our home is a time for family, reflection, conscious dining and slowing it down with or without the aid of tryptophan. This year however, we are moving at a much faster pace than we'd like. A pace all too familiar to many who are also chasing bills...er I mean the American Dream. In short, Favorite Guy must work. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but my dinner puts me in the kitchen anywhere between 8-12 hours. There is just no way I'll sit idly by and watch my tasty morsels inhaled; seductive flavors slaughtered by the mangling of hasty mastication. Oh hell no! We'll just wait.

In the meantime I've been getting busy in the Test Kitchen employing my down home southern roots in the veganizing of what I call my "wounded soul-free soul food delights". I just put my foot in a pot of black eyed peas! Yes, my foot and not the pig's. They are amazing! The Test Kitchen recipes will be transcribed from food stained scrap paper scrawlings for your pleasure shortly!

Have a peaceful pleasant holiday.

Um... black eyed peas. Here you go with the black eyed peas again, lol. I know they are gonna taste wonderful. Don't you just love this American Dream business?? Some dream. Oops, that slipped out.

I just put my potatoes in the oven so I guess I am about to do a little testing of my own.

I hope that once your feast is underway that you all will have a very Happy Thanksgiving =)

Working on holidays is a reality for a great many people. My very first job (tender age of 13) was in a nursing home (receptionist) and I worked 1/2 every holiday. Given the chaotic, alcohol-fueled emotional excess of my extended family's gatherings....it was a blessing, trust me.

I'm sure your favorite guy would prefer to be home, and so that is not a factor! ; ) Holidays happen ultimately when the people involved make/allow them to happen (in other words, its not really much of a holiday if the people don't really want to gather together) so....

enjoy yours thoroughly when the gathering time arrives! I'm happy to say we will be enjoying ours, as well!

ha! i was listening to michael basdin (?) show in the car today (though i hate to admit that) and about died laughing when he said his mama was in the kitchen put her foot in some greens. i love such expressions.

i also love black eyed peas. or at least i used to when i could eat them without my stomach screaming out for mercy. i don't know what happened, but they no longer sit well with me. although i used to go hard on some peas and hot water corn bread. yes.in.deed.

i'm gonna have to learn how to veganize my mom's lemon pie. that's one dessert i hated to let go. goodness!!

(ps: check the "put my foot" in link)

I applaud you postponing the day until you can do it up right. Your black eyed peas sound yummy, and I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving, whenever you have it!

I haven't had an actually Thanksgiving feast on Thanksgiving Day. For the past 12 years we've had our Thanksgiving on the following weekend. It works for us and I really enjoy our day.

Black eyed peas, huh?! I'm more of a red beans and rice type of girlie myself but hey, whatever works, right...wink-wink. Enjoy your festivities and enjoy your blacy eyed peas!!

Oh, yeah, I'm so using your term of 'Thanks-living'. Im going to use it like I invented the ish myself. Just keeping it real...hee-hee

Haha! I love when people say "put my foot in ______". Pat and Gina say it all the time on that Food Network show Down Home with the Neely's. It's pretty hard to make the classics in a new way, huh? It usually doesn't work out for me. I'll be posting about our family's misadventures later in the day or tomorrow. Have fun not celebrating genocide, as you put it:D

The same thing happened to us. We were supposed to go to Charleston, but my guy has to be at work very early tomorrow (we, it's after midnight so actually this) morning. But we managed to make it work today (well, actually yesterday).
