A Passion for Purple

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.”

My sister Bhani will be twenty years old on Friday and I've made this necklace for her. As sibling superlatives go, she is the nicest of us three ; she's bubbly and energetic, and very outgoing. My brother and I ("The Meanies") are more like stoic cave dwellers.

While we share a similar fondness for shoes and body modifications- each of us inked and pierced, "Fagadocious" (Hehe, don't ask.) is at the prime of her life and well on the heels of cutting edge urban fashion. Lucky for me, the one thing I can keep track of is her lifelong love affair with the color purple and all things unique and handmade.

What is your one thing? Would your closest friends, and/or close family members guess correctly?
Peace

What a great gift.

Love the description-stoic cave dwellers.

And to answer your question, sadly, the answer is no.

yeah, that's really nice. the colors all work so well together.

hmmm...i really don't think anyone in my family or even in my circle of friends (which isn't so huge) knows a lot about what "my one thing". they know the types of interests i have, but nothing in particular, though.

as for myself, i'm good for knowing and remembering such personalized info. about people. i think it makes things all the more special.

I LOVE the color purple (and that would be the movie and the color... don't ask me why I STILL haven't read the book). Love the necklace. She is gonna be one stylin' 20 year old =)

What a lovely present. Your sister's very lucky to have you as a sister. Happy B'day to her.

Greetings from London.

Meanie or no, how hot is it that your sister has a sister who can make her original jewelry? Nice! Happy, b-day sis.

And everyone I know BESTA know that I would spend every last dime I have on an original Romare Bearden... if I had it like that.

Alas, I don't.

Dammit.

Sisters are amazing aren't they? I have a beautiful, resilient younger sister myself who constantly amazes me.
I just came across your blog today and it was a delighter to my morning. I look forward to seeing your creativity in motion.
Your jewelery is beautiful, I think she'll love it!
As to your question, yes, I have a friend and a sister who "see me" in things and will sometimes surprise me with some small treasure.

Purple is one of my favorite colors....right up their with anything in the blue-green family!!

Great present for a special birthday. (OK, your sister is younger than my daughter: suddenly...feeling...old.

I think my mecurial, Gemini nature makes it hard for even me to know if I have "one thing" let alone someone else to clue into it...

Beautiful necklace! Lucky sister!!

I love sooo much I don't think I could pick just one. So I'm sure family and friends couldn't pick just one for me either...but I'm sure they could name most of my top ten!
