Keys

Custom Quad-strand fabric cuff with skeleton key, made just for me by:

I last wrote of the symbolism of keys in May. I spoke of belonging and of fitting in, of ambling along in search of answers. Fast forward some months and I'm looking at keys-literally and figuratively, as a means of opening and closing doors. I'm entering uncharted territory in my art and heart and locking out patterns of behavior, fear and subsequently, people.

Of course there's the ambivalence; vacillating between the saying, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got." And, the fear that this may be the feels right but is oh so wrong move. The frustration of wondering what might have been had I opened/closed some doors a long time ago and, other run of the mill thoughts of impending doom.
So, yeah I've got a custodian-esque amount of keys clipped on my proverbial hip. One of them has got to open/close something soon.

Peace and the promise of a better tomorrow

Oh, it's so nice to see the cuff! Thank you for posting that! I agree with you...I, too, have the same frustration about what might've been had I taken certain paths and opened certain doors. I'm still waiting to find the right path- the right door..maybe there is no right door, because whatever happened is what was meant to be all along.

Lovely post.

~~ "feels right but is oh so wrong move"~~ my fear in my life right now. You hit it. Maybe the fact that others feel the same may be a clue...

so very true... i think we both know the saying about 'when one door closes, another opens'... but it has taken maturity, years & struggle to appreciate how wonderful the doors that open can be... having the presence of mind to notice the doors that may have been overlooked... the fear of no other door opening can hold you back and keep you doing 'safe' things (even if they are unhealthy, they are known)... i am with you, the keys have taken on a whole new meaning... another wonderful post - thanks!

Love this! I think keys represent power too. I was always fascinated by custodians and there tons of keys as a kid, I remember feeling like no matter how people treated them, they knew they had all the keys and that someday people would need them. No matter who was in charge, the custodian could unlock anything at any time and it was so fun to see them going in rooms that were otherwise dangerous for us common folks and emerging unharmed, wiser (because they figured out the problem), and triumphant (because they fixed the problem)...anyway, I've loved keys ever since school for this reason.

I believe that you will do wise things with your powerful keys, even if you open some doors and slam them shut immediately, you can trust yourself with the keys :)
