The Baking Undertaking

So, I'm baking and once again, I'm asking myself, "Self, why do you bake when it troubles you so?" Baking, much like sewing is an exact science. Tameka, much like her children [insert grimace here] has grave difficulty following direction. She just isn't happy unless she adds her own "creative spin".

My butter cookies needed a bit of almond extract. My tiramisu needed more instant coffee powder in the batter, less liqueur and more confectioner's sugar in the frosting. My chocolate crinkles needed to cook a bit longer. My lemon ricotta cookies needed a less lemony glaze. And now I need a Valium as I'm filled with worry that all of this tweaking will render my recipes inedible.

Stay tuned and cross your fingers, will you?

Peace and bad carbs

Taking the road less traveled often has great surprises.

I was asking myself the exact same thing this morning as I started to crank out dozens of cookies. I LOATHE baking. Yes, LOATHE. I don't like any kind of cooking. I don't like the kitchen. It makes such a freaking mess and then I eat all the cookies and I shouldn't be, but I have NO will power when it comes to cookies.

Still every year I make the cookies....each person's favorite...and complain to myself the entire time I'm doing it.

Next year, I am going to assign one kind of cookie to each of my three children and their spouses/significant others and say....you make them. I am taking the year off!!

I ate cookie dough for breakfast, and cookies for my morning snack, my lunch and my afternoon snack. Charming isn't it?

hmmm, good chance your delectables will be just that - delectable!! glad you are giving them a tweak.. i mean really, if you google any recipe you don't get the EXACT same one over and over, instead there are variations!
i have been baking since i was a teen but hadn't the past couple of years... this year, i started again only to have them all gobbled up by the end of the weekend... i now have choc crinkle dough in the fridge and am hoping to have just a bit of something left to give! (good luck with that!)
the happiest of holidays to you and your family tamekah... looking forward to a new year of adventures, thoughts and sharing along the way...

hehe! I have the same problem... baking causes me great pain and suffering... and since I'm not into all that, I just don't do it! Good for you for trying new things! My husband does it all the time, which MOSTLY ends in perfection! I'm sure yours will too!

So, if all your stress pays off...will you share the recipe for the lemon ricotta cookies/tweaked?

fingers crossed.

i'm the same way when it comes to aking/cooking: can not follow a recipe exactly for nothing! and it's the same with sewing. i enjoy to freestyle most things. most of the time they turn out useable/edble, but there are rejects from time to time...

I always take recipes as mere suggestions. I bet your treats are just as yummy as they sound...

Merry Christmas to you and your family,

Kate

I can't wait to hear how everything turned out. I can't help myself either - I frequently tweak recipes. Happy Holidays!

Yummmmy tiramisu, gurlll! I didn't know you baked! I'm sure it was all great as long as you didn't mess with the essentials.
