Random Thought Thursday

Home

Harriet Beecher Stowe once said, “Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserved; it is life's undress rehearsal, its backroom; its dressing room, from which we go forth to more careful and guarded intercourse, leaving behind...cast-off and everyday clothing.”

It's been a long week here at home, the home office, home school. The toll of a long and unforgiving desert summer is beginning to weigh upon me; temperatures are high and tolerance is low, my days are long, my patience short, my head hung low, my shoulders high, my thoughts loose and my words terse. I'm fatigued. This summer air feels stale and uninspiring. I'm ready to move on and leave it behind, for now.

I'm looking forward to a fresh breeze, an early dusk; a reprieve, a few stolen hours for my love and me to be free- it has been some time. And you, what are you looking forward to? What will you leave behind?
Peace and autumn

I guess that explains why people say they felt like they got raped when their house gets robbed.

But I am ready for summer to be over, too. I don't really like summer. It's too hot. I love Autumn, and Winter, and I look forward to my yearly visit to the Pumpkin Patch, and shopping for Christmas, and snow, to name a few things.

I am looking forward to a long weekend at the lake, time spent with the family with no distractions, no electronics and crisp cool nights by the camp fire! I can almost smell it now! Leaving behind my first 3 weeks back at work and the stress that goes along with it! In a People House, one of my favorite children's stories and one of the first stories my daughter read - all by herself... she found it on a bookshelf - I had never read it to her as it had been forgotten!

the stowe quote took my breath away - so very poignant, beautiful, true... aahh - first for you, a deep breath, my yogi friend and drop those shoulders, relax your neck... for some nice freak of nature, we have some cool weather... i am not in the desert, but in the land of humid heat... it was completely getting to me - to the point that my kids kept asking, 'what's bothering you? you look so unhappy and tense.' from the mouths... so this coolness has been a reprieve... the indian summer will return, but i am enjoying open windows, wind chimes sounding and cricket noises at night... i am looking forward to a bit of time to try to create the myriad things spinning around in my head in the midst of real life (but creating is my real life! this other stuff is a hindrance, don't you think?) inhale...exhale....
full moon tonight - give thanks!

What a lovely quote...and what a wonderful writer you are. You really do inspire with every word. Hmmm..I'm looking forward to this long weekend. I plan on sewing and reading out on the balcony and enjoying the last bits of sun. I am looking forward to fall, though, as well. The other day it smelled like autumn outside and it was so refreshing to smell that again! P.S. Your cuff was mailed yesterday- can't wait for you to get it!

I am looking forward to pulling out the design table, clay, and beads, and making some new creations. Haven't been at it in a while, and I am truly contemplating going out this festival season to sell, despite being a few weeks away from delivery.

I am leaving behind the stress of job loss, negative people and disappointment. I am looking forward to a renewal of my own personal strength and happiness.

What a beautifully written post!! I too am over this summer, although whispers of fall are here in the way of cool mornings, cold nights, and leaves changing. Strangely, this year it feels too fast...I'm not ready for fall even though I'm over summer. I'm working on leaving behind studkedness...moving forward full force!

I'm looking forward to clear blue autumn skies and apple cider. My summer was a whirlwind of being way too busy, so I don't really feel like I'm leaving summer behind; I'm just being propelled very quickly toward autumn.
