This is the final in my series meant to stall my readers...er I mean, well yeah-stall my readers. In case you missed the other parts, here is part one and here is part two. And, now for some uncertainty: I've got all of my material ready for my first zine and can't decide whether I will publish on paper or digitally.
The Favorite Guy says both, I'm still not sure. I want to be mindful of waste. I had even considered a limited run, leaving a space at the back of the zine where it could be recycled; addressed and passed on to another reader.
Then, I found this site and fell in an immediate and, not quite well thought out love with the digital concept. Yet, I keep going back to wanting a piece of something tangible for my efforts; something I can store away, share and read again and again even in times of technological trouble. Your thoughts?

Hmm, that's a tough call. I'd say start out digital - it's cheaper, it's way more enviro-friendly, and it's "on trend". You could print yourself a few copies for records and promotion.
i'm more of a tangible, i-need- something-to-hold-in-my-hands type when it comes to reading materials such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc. then again my eye sight has been (further)ruined by too much internet reading.
with the threats of newspapers and other publications across the nation going out of business due to everything going online these days, you could be the rebel who goes against the grain. and perhaps it can be printed on recycled materials??? plus, i like the idea of it having built in eco-friendly mechanism.
on the other hand, i think the convenience of an online publication is also a relevant reason to go that route. and that open zine website seems like it would be a really good venue.
i personally thin it'd be wise to at least do a limited run mostly for reasons you mentioned at the end. (and also because i'd like to get one. :-)
I am with your Favorite Guy on this - both. At least for a while, until you figure out if going only digital works for you. I like to hold and read a book or magazine, which is why I still haven't gotten around to reading books online. Nothing like slouching on a comfortable sofa, reading a good book:):)
I am more apt to read if it's in my hands. I like to get comfy and read in bed and don't own a laptop. I think both might be the way to go and see what you end up feeling better about.
I agree with fav guy. Both, but less of the paper copies. Eventually cut out paper all together. Make a gazillion references to the online zine in the paper one. Plus, add more incentive to use the online zine by having a more frequent rotation of information online, giveaways, and other online driving tools like twitter, blah, blah.
Glad to see you are close to making it all happen.
I'm not even sure I "get" the whole zine, thing, but why let that stop me from commenting! ; P
I prefer to hold things as I read them. I like paper and being able to hold it really close (glasses off) or a foot away (trifocals on : P
What about on demand delivery?! You want on-line: here it is. You want paper: let me print one up and send it to you....
What's the fee structure (if any) on these?! that might make a difference....
